A masonry crown is a maintenance item forever — it cracks, you seal it, it cracks again, and eventually you rebuild it. This unit ends that cycle by taking the crown out of the weather entirely: one stainless top capping every flue with an overhang that throws water past the brick. Over a ten-year window it's usually cheaper than the rebuild-and-reseal pattern it replaces. The honest cost is aesthetic — it reads as metal, and on a decorative chimney some homeowners won't accept that.

A roof fan with a modulating control is genuinely effective on a flue that can't draft naturally, and it's also a motor, a sensor and a control board living outdoors — it needs annual service and it will eventually need parts. We only reach for it after we've ruled out the fixable causes, because the cheapest draft fix is nearly always the one that doesn't plug in.
